According the official statement issued on September 3, the contract enlists the delivery of 6.8 mm hybrid ammo[1], light machine gun and rifle systems, both of which are compatible with a newly developed suppressor. The company will “provide a single-source manufacturing for ammunition, weapons, and suppressors” underlining “honor with the selection for the Next Generation Squad Weapons-NGSW program, which main goal is to boost soldier`s lethality and advantage over the conventional squad armament”, by replacing the currently used M-4 and M-249 systems.

According to Ron Cohen, the president and CEO of the company “The cornerstone of our submission is the recently developed 6.8 mm hybrid ammo.”

Our 6.8 mm ammo represents a significant leap in ammo innovations, design and manufacturing.

The mentioned ammo is developed in order to increase the penetration at greater distances and is more compact, accurate and significantly lighter.

The primary request in NGSW program, set by the US Army top runners, implied a system with a firepower and effective range similar to a machine gun, along with the precision and ergonomics of a rifle.

The company challenged the request with the SIG Sauer NGSW-AR, a light machine gun system, with the well-known AR-15/M-4 ergonomics. The system, amongst other things, features the brazenly increased Picatinny rails space, folding buttstock and suppressor.

The company has developed the new ammo in order to meet the requirement for 20% lighter ammunition and 30% more energy than current 7.62×51 mm NATO cartridges.

As for the rifle system, the company has stepped forth with SIG Sauer NGSW-Rifle, a 6.8 mm system as well, with M-LOK™ free-floating[2] reinforced handguard, ambidextrous AR-15/M-4 controls, folding stock and, of course, suppressor.

“The last component of our program is our suppressor, developed through a rigorous, exhausting and meticulous research, which significantly decreases the sonic signature and unpleasant backflow”, boasted Cohen.
