The ceremonial formation was formed of echelons of experienced operators, alongside the veterans echelon and newly admitted operators. In one word—generations of “Cobras” gathered in one place, united under the same flag and wearing the black berets—some bearing the unit`s insignia, others the insignia of the Military Police—symbolizing a tradition spanning nearly half a century. Few military units can take such pride in their legacy as the “Cobras”.
Whether carrying out tasks in peacetime or combat (!) conditions, domestically or abroad, the “Cobras” of the Serbian Armed Forces have consistently performed at the highest level, guided by chivalry and professionalism.

This year’s celebration began with a formal report delivered to the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković. In his address, the unit’s commander, Army Colonel Darko Đošić, reflected on both collective and individual achievements of the unit during the last year. He proudly noted that the detachment has grown stronger by 100 new operators, along with 20 new multipurpose vehicles. Colonel Đošić extended a heartfelt salute to the veterans and their families, also paying tribute to the unit’s deceased members. He announced that going forward, the unit’s tradition would be further enriched by the adoption of krsna slava—dedicated to Saint Archangel Gabriel.
This year, as before, the unit's Flag Platoon—composed of its youngest operators—carried the military flag of the detachment, which had been officially presented to the unit by the President of the Republic the year prior.
This year’s celebration was filled with many memorable moments. It is a true privilege—and an even greater joy—to see these exceptional individuals in good health and on a positive occasion, to exchange greetings, ask about each other's well-being, and share a bit of dark military humor. Such ceremonies are also an excellent opportunity to reflect with the unit’s leadership on all the great things we’ve accomplished together during the last year—and to pledge to make even greater endeavors in the years to come.
One moment that undeniably marked the day for us was capturing a photograph of our exceptional veteran, Laki, and his son—who has followed in his father’s footsteps.

I, myself, the writer of these words, remember looking up to photographs of Laki in action as a youngster, admiring his presence during tactical demonstrations. Later, I had the opportunity to take photographs of him myself, and eventually to meet him in person—to hear parts of his extraordinary professional journey, from him and his colleagues. I even had the honor of contributing to the creation of a farewell gift, designed by his comrades upon his retirement. But yesterday, I had the greatest privilege of all: to immortalize the moment when father and son stood side by side, sharing smiles and proud glances.
There is something profoundly moving in witnessing such an image—one that speaks of a healthy family, strong values, the passage of time—and, above all, of chivalry as a lasting legacy, passed from one generation to the next.
TweetWe shall wrap up this article with a dedication to Laki: Thank you, Laki, for everything you have done for this country—and thank you for passing the torch of chivalry to your son!
