The "Cobras" of Serbia are the oldest military counter-terrorism unit in the country and one of the oldest special forces units in the former Yugoslavia. Each April 14th, the unit commemorates the same date in 1978, when the Military Police Counter-Terrorism Department was formed within the 282nd Battalion of the then Yugoslav People's Army.
The ceremony began with the assembly of active operators, followed by recently recruited newbies as part of the "Project 5000," with a special place in the ceremonial line-up taken by the unit`s veterans, who once again proudly wore their black berets.
In the presence of the highest political and military officials, the commander of the unit, Colonel Darko Đošić, addressed the operators, highlighting the readiness of the unit to respond and execute any task at any moment.
The motivation, dedication, professionalism, and patriotism of the members are also reflected in the unit's very concise and clear motto — Nothing is Impossible.
The President of the Republic of Serbia also addressed, presenting the commander with a military flag, obligating both the commander and all operators to ensure that this flag is never stained by enemy hands! This was the first time in the unit's history that a flag was awarded, and it will accompany the unit wherever it is deployed. The youngest members of the unit symbolically received and carried the flag from the commander.
The ceremony was also an opportunity to publicly promote several new features for the first time. Notably, operators wore new, two-piece tactical uniforms in a camouflage pattern similar to Multicam Black, manufactured by "Yumco", as well as tactical Hi boots “Haix Black Eagle Athletic 2.1”. Additionally, this was the first occasion on which operators wore the new unit insignia on their black berets, designed in two variants — for officers and non-commissioned officers.
After the main ceremony, the present visited a tactical-technical both, where several new features also attracted significant attention. Noteworthy were the "Brügger & Thomet" systems in various models and calibers. Particularly interesting were the extremely compact models in 9 mm caliber, fitted with the "Aimpoint Micro T-2" red dot sights, and for this contingent of submachine guns, excellent sound suppressors from the same manufacturer were also purchased. The operators themselves are very satisfied with these submachine guns, and their compactness will contribute to their duties and tasks, especially in the area of VIP protection. A detail that very few noticed was the presence of the high-end "Invisio" tactical communication devices, and we wish the members to introduce them into use as soon as possible and in greater numbers.
The sympathies of those present were also captured by a big-good-boi Šarplaninac K9 named Pako, but since Pako is an exceptional service doggo, he will receive a special story from us on our website.
