The facility will be officially opened on April 14, the unit’s anniversary, and represents the first purpose-built facility allocated to the unit since its establishment.

Covering an area of approximately 10,000 square meters and organized across six levels, the facility’s core significance lies in the fact that the “Cobras” will henceforth be able to conduct basic and advanced tactical training, firearms training, and special physical training within their own base. To that end, the facility will, among other features, include artificial climbing walls and an indoor shooting range beefed up to the most advanced standards, allowing live fire within a 120-degree arc. Once completed, the facility will be one of the most modern in Southeast Europe, and certainly the most advanced in the country.

Such purpose-built infrastructure is a standard for the world’s most elite special operations units. More importantly, it is infrastructure that a unit such as the “Cobras” of the Serbian Armed Forces fully deserves. During the tour, the team that will represent the unit, the Serbian Armed Forces, and the Republic of Serbia at the “SWAT Challenge 2026” competition in Dubai presented part of their assigned weapons and equipment to the attending officials, with particular emphasis on the systems and geear that is to be used at the competition in Dubai. Due to a change in the competition rules, introduced by the hosts, the top-tier Czech KMR handguns, in several models, all chambered in 9×19 mm, will have to remain in Serbia, and our operators will deploy in Dubai with Glocks fitted with Holosun red-dot sights.

The guys is already engaged in intensive and serious preparations for the competition, and we will have the opportunity to follow and support them on site, throughout all competition days.

We were particularly pleased to learn that a 5.56 mm assault rifle system, currently undergoing operational testing within the unit, has so far made very positive impressions, and that it is highly likely to be adopted into the service.

During the tour of the technical and tactical equipment area, based on parts of the conversation between the unit’s commander, the President of the Republic, and the Chief of the General Staff, we concluded that there is proactive consideration of the challenges, faced by the officials, in the procurement of high-end weapon systems for the needs of special forces.

We welcome the announcements that the process of equipping the elite units of the Serbian Armed Forces will continue at the same pace.
