Multi-day preparations were finalized on Friday, November 9, in the presence of the Supreme Commander, Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces and state officials. Once again, elite operators, as expected, confirmed the professional status and reputation of the eldest and most elite military counter-terrorist unit in the country.

The demonstration was also a chance to promote specialist gear that was procured during the previous and the ongoing year and inducted to use at Military Police Special Operation Battalion “Cobras”.

The display began with the demonstration of the VIP close protection group tactics, Counter Assault Team-CAT and escort.

Within the scenario, the group carried out tactics in an “expanded diamond”^[1] foot formation. At the moment of an attack, one of the retainers of the outer security ring emulated wounding, while the rest quickly neutralized the “attacker”, protecting the retainers of the inner security ring who had quickly and skillfully protected the VIP by using a ballistic briefcase and extracted him into the main vehicle.

A smaller group of attackers was engaged and neutralized by CAT operators, covering the extraction of a “wounded” and escort from the attack venue. Shooting with a Zastava M84 7.62×54 mm R machine gun from the back of the CAT vehicle was especially amusing for the present.

The retainers were armed with the FN SCAR L CQC assault rifles with shortened barrel, chambered in 5.56 mm, in configuration with Aimpoint CompM4 red dot sights, 3XMAG magnifiers, from the same manufacturer and assault handgrips. They were carrying two-piece “Cobra Tactical” uniforms produced by Yumco A.D., from the city of Vranje, black plate carriers, tactical belts by several producers, including ones with very reliable Cobra D-rings and KYWI (Kydex Wedge Inserts) pouches, and semi-auto Glock 17s Gen 4 in 9 mm, as secondary. All retainers wore Haix Black Eagle Tactical 20 High boots in black.

Following was a demonstration of an attack on a road vehicle and arrest of suspects. The demonstration of very interesting and attractive tactics was carried out under a supposition that the vehicle was stationary in a crossroad with a traffic light.

Very dynamic was a demonstration of a building assault which was, according the scenario, occupied by terrorists armed with automatic armament. In the first phase of the assault, special forces executed an insertion by air, performing fast rope technique from Mi-8 helicopter, and almost simultaneously ground forces began the attack advancing to the building from three directions. The storm was executed synchronically: specialists performed a vertical assault from a rooftop using alpine ropes, while the ground breach was conducted through windows, using breaching frames with rigged explosive and assault platforms. Supporting forces consisted of three light-armored HMMWV vehicles with the FN Minimi 5.56 mm light machine guns mounted.

Nine operators, led by Instructor Dušan Jakovljević, demonstrated the present attractive attacking and defensive techniques with bare hands, cold weapons and various tools.

After a walk through a tactical and technical assemblage and demonstration at a closed pool, the attendants had visited a recently opened closed shooting range, within the barracks, and followed a captivating demonstration of nine operators, who shot a target situation using semi-auto handguns and submachine guns.

Stationary and moving targets were shot accurately and simultaneously. The operators shot with Glock 17 Gen 4 and CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow handguns, both systems in 9 mm, along with HK UMP submachine guns, in the same caliber, in configuration with EOTech XPS2-0 holographic sights, UTG tactical lights and HK ergonomic assault handgrips.

The last shooting sequence was conducted in a total dark, using Dedal DVS-8 3rd generation binoculars. The shooters wore “Cobra Tactical” uniforms, plate carries and tactical boots of various producers, among others, very reliable and high-end LOWA Zephyr GTX MID TF combat boots in Sage color^[2].

After the last sequence of the demonstration was completed, the elite operators were briefly addressed by the Supreme Commander, who praised the professionalism and operational capacities of the operators, as well as the whole demonstration.
